bears in trees are a dirtbag boyband from south london, formed in 2014. They call themselves a dirtbag boyband as a way of taking emphasis out of the genre of music they produce, and into the meaning and quality behind it instead! In one of their interviews, they described their music as 'music for people who are trying to get better' and i'm certainly trying!!

the album cover for how to build an ocean: instructions

I love bears in trees because their music is a violent defence of being messy and colourful and loved. the message that threads all of their songs together is the importance of human connection and getting better. they foster one of the kindest and silliest fanbases i've ever been in (hi jay and toni and rai and lukas!!) and their music held my hand through adolescence. seeing them live changed my life and seeing hundreds of people who looked like me, with ridiculous messy eyeshadow and doodles all over them made me realise just what i'd been missing, and that i'd spent so long trying to force euphoria into the conventional instead of letting my heart spill across my face.

how to build an ocean: instructions. out now.

a pink tote bag with 'bears in trees' printed on it in a hand-written style. the print is in a lighter shade of pink and has a border of doodled flowers around the edge of the bag a vinyl copy of How To Build An Ocean: Instructions. the album cover is a map of Croydon in south London that appears to be composed of scraps of various maps layered together. there are doodles and annotations on the maps, pointing to various memories or places such as 'the roundabout we don't talk about' and 'big tescos'. on top of the vinyl is an identical, but smaller, CD case. a thin book with the outlines of the members of bears in trees on it. the writing on the cover reads 'bears in trees. and everybody else smiled back official colouring book. artwork by Iain Gillespie and Rebellious-Teeth. two postcards, one face up and one face down. the face up one reads 'thank u! hello! this is just a quick note to say thank u so much for yr order! u r not only the bee's knees, and not just the cat's pyjamas but perhaps even the hippopotamus's toothbrush!! stay happy and stay healthy!' with a hand written signature of bears in trees, signed with an x o x o. where the stamp should be, there is a drawing of a snail. on the face down postcard, there are four photographs of the band, in various levels of comic peril. three stickers. two of them are a white, irregular shape with 'bears in trees' colourfully written in a hand written style on them, the third is a thin rectangle with geometric shapes and bears in trees written in black on top of the shapes, in the same style as the first stickers. a white cotton tee shirt with bears in trees written on it in block black capitals. underneath the writing there are four black and white drawings of animals, with two above and two below. there is a squirrel, a hedgehog, a frog, and a raccoon. around them there are various black hearts and sparkles. a green rubber wristband with bears in trees engraved on it in white, in the same style as the stickers. i actually have four of the stickers, but one is on my water bottle and one was on my old laptop rip god rest its soul.
