Come with me... on a journey through time and space!
To the land of The Mighty Boosh!
The Mighty Boosh was an EdFringe troupe turned radio show turned BBC sitcom that were active from 1998 to 2009. The troupe consisted of Julian Barratt, Noel and Michael Fielding, Dave Brown and Rich Fulcher.
According to wikipedia, their whole thing can be tied neatly into 'surreal musical comedy' but when the BBC show first aired, it developed a reputation for being a go-to for when you're stoned out of your mind. and that probably says a lot more about whatever the fuck was happening.
I honestly don't really recommend boosh. The humour doesn't hold up 20 years later and honestly i did not think they'd let blackface slide in 2004 but this show absolutely proved me wrong. The show has its perks, and when it's not being uncomfortably casually racist, it has a solid queer vibe (especially for the time. vince noir gnc and bisexual canon in 2007?). except for the looming fear that at any point you're going to see blackface.
If you do want to watch it, i'd recommend skipping or mentally preparing for:
- S01E01 - 'Killeroo' for jokes about indigenous people (particularly in australia and africa).
- S01E05 - 'Jungle' for blackface
- S01E07 - 'Electro' for blackface
- S02E02 - 'The Priest and The Beast' for brownface
